Hanging out with the band - after 35 years!

It's funny how things go full circle - and you're back where you started by chance. Within the last couple months, I visited with former members of EUBIAK to shoot the bull, pull up old photos, and "remember" what we can of our past. Here's a couple phots of Eubiak "Then & Now" - the only member I haven't yet bumped into being Frank Chiapetta, our bassist.

Guitars and Amps on "10" - Forever !

The guitar team of Harry and Jeff was brutal back then. We did everything you weren't supposed to do. Feedback was our friend, and power chords flowed like water. Jeff used two Fender Supers and a Les Paul for his rig - I used a Sound City stack and a Fender Telecaster for my rig. Distortion pedals were the order of the day, but the one thing I think made the Eubiak sound stand out from the rest, is the Guild - Binson EchoRec that I used at the time. It's still with me - and functional.

Jeff lives in Florida now, where he still collects guitars, amps, and records - but prefers to stay away from the performing scene. The photo on the right was taken this past July at his home in Tampa.

Some Things Shouldn't Change

Out of the blue - I happened to hook up with Dale Garrison - the drummer for Eubiak. He's been living in the Florida Keys since the mid 70's, and I haven't seen him since. On a recent visit to New Jersey, Dale gave me a call and we hooked up. It was like time had stood still. We were a little uglier, slower, and forgetfull - but we partied like it was yesterday, and both look forward to hooking up again.

Sometime near the beginning of October, Dale will be at Saxon and we plan on doing some recording - just for the hell of it. Dale used to play a HUGE double-kick set, and it's gonna be a challenge to find something compatable, but whatever we land with, I'm sure it will be another "classic". If possible - I'm gonna try to pull up some old Eubiak tunes, and see what happens to them 35 years later. Should be a gas!

Hard - Loud - and Fast !

EUBIAK was unleashed sometime in the beginning of 1972. It's the outcome of numerous jam sessions, and a load of psychedelics. Heavily influenced by the likes of Cactus and The MC5, Eubiak was a wall of sound to be reckoned with. Everything was on "10" - the amps, the guitars, and the characters.

In the last few months, I've been restoreing old Eubiak Reel-to-Reel recordings. Most of them are from rehearsal sessions, and some are "live" at various outings. The quality, is about as much as the mics we used could handle. But there's enough listenable material to comp something together. So what I've been working on, is a DVD presentation - including a slide show of old photos I've assembled, and "clips" from the various tapes. A full-length CD is down the road.
